Academic Style is a writing skill that I prefer to focus on because it is very useful on my writing assignment when I do a Master's Degree in the next few months.

There are four writing tasks that I completed on Academic Style ; task 1 and 2 of Features Academic Style and task 3 and 4 of Distinguishing between informal and formal language.

I have learnt the academic writing style consist of 6 distinguishing features ; formal, succinct, precise, supported, objective/impersonal/indirect and measured/causios.

I would like my classmate to do the Academic Style task, it is particular in task 3 because they can type their answeer on the blank as well.

Belated BirthDay Party (^ __^)

LET'S CELEBRATE !!!

Last Sunday (May 8, 2011) was my birthday but it was not special day for me because I still worked @ Thai Restaurant as usual T__T.

However, last Wednesday I had an appointment with my friends who are studying in pre-sessional course and PEP course to celebrate the Belated Birthday Party for Miri and I. Because of our different nationality, so it was the first international party. Unfortunately, there were some Saudi Arabian missed the party but the show must go on. I prepared some Thai Food to share and the rest dished were cooked in the kitchen by a Super Chef from Japan (Naoko) and a Head Chef from Thailand (Great).

 

 I'm sorry that I can't remember the name of Japanese food that Naoko cooked but the dish that Chef Great cooked it was Pad Gaprao Moo (Pork stir-fired with Thai holy basil).

That was a wonderful Birthday Party with special guys.

How to access the library's online resources (The Albert Sloman Library)

Finding an item in the library ---> The Library's online resources system is a significant channel to find some items from The Albert Sloman Library. It also seems to be a favorite online system of Essex students. This is comfortable when we would like to borrow some books from the library. We can search by category that we know such as author, title, keyword, subject, classmark or ISBN. After that we will see a list of books that relate to our typing words. When we choose some books from the list, their detail will be showed on screen.

Searching an online article --- > Online article is a very useful website because it is very easy to find many articles and journals. The most important is that we can download, save or print them out later because they are converted in pdf file.

I really like and impress the library's online resources because it can  save my time to check some book that I need to borrow. I confirmed that it is not complicated to use since I got one book ''The International Business Environment'' and one journal ''The Challenge of Manager Keeping Customers'' by finding and searching online.

Hybrid rocketry will be used to drive faster than ever before

In this summer Daniel Jubb will undertake the first full test firing of a hybrid rocket which he has designed to help a British team set a new land-speed record by driving at 1,000 mph (1,609 kph). However, a powerful EJ200 jet engine from a Typhoon fighter aircraft and a Cosworth Formula 1 racing engine will be also needed the assistance of this rocket if Bloodhound SSC (supersonic car) is to become the fastest thing on wheels.

Jubb usually designs and manufactures secretive military rockets in Britain and the United States. The project of bloodhound SSC has begun at an appropriate location which is a borrowed warehouse on the quayside in Bristol next to Isambard Kingdom Brunel’s SSC Great Britain in a record 14 days.

About me in Pre-Sessional Course

My name is Arisa. Now I study in Pre-sessional Course of Essex University. I plan to do a master's degree in International Management.

This is my first time that I study in the UK, so there are some English skills that I would like to improve before studying in Master Degree. Speaking is an English skill that I would like to practice during the pre-sessional course. I expect that my speaking will be more fluent and my sentences will be more accurate after I finish this course.


Normally, I try to practice my speaking by talking with my international friends in English. Moreover, I try to communicate with customers when I work at Thai restaurant.
